Ghost immobiliser vs GPS tracker

Understand the different jobs of an immobiliser and a GPS tracker, and when a combined installation makes sense.

An immobiliser controls start authorisation

An Autowatch Ghost uses a disarm sequence through supported vehicle buttons. Its purpose is to add an authorisation step before driving. Compatibility and available authorisation methods depend on the version and installation.

A tracker provides location information

GPS tracking reports vehicle location and can provide journey history or alerts, depending on the equipment and service. A self-monitored tracker sends information to you; a monitored recovery product includes a monitoring provider. Neither should be treated as a guarantee against theft.

Why combine them?

A combined setup addresses two different needs: additional start protection and location information. If you want both, compare a tracker-and-immobiliser package with the cost and operation of separate systems. Confirm which app or tag controls each part.

Think about everyday use

Discuss how you will authorise starting, what to do if an authorisation method is unavailable, and how workshop handovers work. Keep personal codes private and ask for a practical demonstration during handover.

Choose by vehicle and requirements

Send your make, model and year before booking rather than choosing a version by name alone. Check the total installation cost and any tracker subscription. If insurance conditions are involved, confirm the required equipment with your insurer.
