S5 vs S7 trackers: what should you choose?
Compare driver identification, monitoring, subscriptions and fitting before choosing an S5 or S7 vehicle tracker.

Start with the reason you need tracking
If you want to see journeys and manage vehicles, self-monitored GPS tracking may meet your needs. If an insurer has requested a monitored tracker, obtain the exact category and model requirements before comparing prices.
Driver identification is a key difference
S5 systems typically add driver identification to monitored tracking. For example, ScorpionTrack uses a driver tag and alerts its monitoring centre when movement occurs without the tag. S7 is an asset-tracking category; check the specific product for its functions.
Check immobilisation separately
Do not assume every S5 tracker prevents a vehicle from starting. Immobilisation can be an optional feature or part of a particular package. Ask how authorisation works and which equipment is included.
Compare the complete cost
Compare hardware, fitting, the initial monitoring period and renewal charges over the length of time you expect to keep the vehicle. A low installation price can be accompanied by a separate subscription. Confirm transfer and cancellation arrangements with the provider.
Before booking
Have your vehicle make, model, year, fitting postcode and insurer requirements ready. Confirm who monitors the tracker, how alerts are handled and what documentation you receive. An insurer must confirm whether a particular installation meets its policy.
Manufacturer reference: Read the manufacturer’s product information.
